Social and Emotional Groups:
Type of Group:
A psychoeducational group that is a structured therapeutic setting designed to provide youth with information, education, and tools to enhance their mental health, emotional well-being, and coping strategies. The aim of these groups is to increase self-awareness, promote understanding of psychological issues, and teach practical skills to address various challenges.
The primary goal of this group is to educate participants about specific topics, such as
mental health disorders, stress management, communication skills, self-esteem, conflict
resolution, and coping mechanisms. Members practice applying the skills they learn to real-life situations. Youth will benefit from shared experiences and mutual support within the group setting.
The theoretical approach that will be used most often in this group is CBT. The cognitive
behavioral approaches are based on a structured, psychoeducational model, and they tend to emphasize the role of homework, place responsibility on the group member to assume an active role both during and outside of the group sessions, and draw from a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques to bring about change.
